副詞子句具有副詞的功能，修飾主要子句中的動詞。說明主要子句發生時的時間、地點、原因、條件、讓步、目的、方式、結果、程度。引導副詞子句的連接詞非常多，常見的有：
引導時間副詞子句：when, after, before, since, as, until
引導地點副詞子句：where, wherever
引導原因副詞子句：because, since, as
引導條件副詞子句：if, in case, provided, unless, as long as
引導讓步副詞子句（表示雖然，即使等語意）：though, although, even if, even though
引導目的副詞子句：so that, in order that
引導結果副詞子句：that ( so…that, such…that)
練習：指出下列各句中的副詞子句，並說明該副詞子句在全句中的功能（是說明時間、地點、原因、條件或…？）
1. Before she fell, a black cat crossed her path and jinxed her.
2. What do you normally do when you are driving?

比較容易辨識形容詞子句是它跟在主要子句之後，又有附屬連接詞(關係詞)引導，那就很容易辨認出來，不會造成閱讀上的困難；

但許多時候形容詞子句是含在主要子句中間初學者會困惑：到底形容詞子句該止於何處? 有時引導形容詞子句的關係詞被省略，初學者也會被困惑：到底形容詞子句從那裡開始?甚至沒有察覺到形容詞子句的存在。

練習一：以下各句都有形容詞子句，請用( )將形容詞子句括出來。
1. Those who love in life inevitably suffer pain.
2. The hurt that comes from a loving heart can deep you.She

3. A man his age who comes to a former student’s wedding would feel a little bit like a father.
