兩個動作同時或緊接發生，其中一個動作可以用分詞表達，這種分詞的結構約等於對等子句。例如：

1. He walked out of the room, slamming the door behind him.

walked與 slamming兩個動作同時發生

(slamming the door behind him＝and slammed the door behind him)

2. He bought a paper, thanking the newspaper seller politely.

bought and thanking 兩動作同時或緊接發生

(thanking the newspaper seller politely ＝ and thanked the newspaper seller politely)
